An Ocean
Awareness Fair- Seeking Sponsors
Paia, Hawaii-
Event sponsors are being sought for next month’s ocean awareness
fair to be held at Maui Community College. On Saturday, April
4, many of Maui’s community groups and organizations are hosting
“More Fish in the Sea: E Ola ke Kai, E Ola Kakou”.
Companies and organizations that are actively engaged in assisting
with the recovery of the health of our ocean can apply for honorary
sponsorship. Deadline to apply is Monday, March 16. Companies
and individuals can also qualify to become an honored donor with cash
or in-kind donations, which will be tax-deductible..
The
event, which will take place on Maui Community College’s Great
Lawn, will include guest speakers followed by break-out action
groups, entertainment, keiki games, food booths and a film festival.
Admission to the event is free. The goal of the event is to
raise awareness and launch actions that help bring back the health of
Maui’s coastal waters. The event’s tagline, E Ola ke Kai, E
Ola Kakou, means that as the ocean thrives, so do we.
The
event’s guest speakers will include Uncle Mac PoePoe, with the Hui
Malama O Mo’omomi, Donna Kahi Kahakui, a renown paddler, EPA
special agent and founder of Kai Makana, and Iokepa Nae’ole, Maui’s
own foremost Cultural and Environmental Educator. As the
sun sets the outdoor film festival, featuring ocean-related movies,
will start. The event will also include information on several
island-wide projects that will be occurring on Sunday, April 5, for
which event participants can sign up to participate.
“We’ve
all seen it ourselves or seen the news and know that our ocean is in
trouble, but if we work together we can help make it better,” says
Hannah Bernard, one of the event coordinators and the President of
the Hawaii Wildlife Fund. “By working together and separately in
our own way, all of us can assist in the revitalization of the health
and beauty of our ocean.”
More Fish in the Sea is being
organized by a consortium of Community groups, non-profit
organizations, foundations and businesses, including Hawai’i
Wildlife Fund, Kai Makana, Maui Tomorrow, Sierra Club, Maui Community
College’s Sustainability Club, MauiFEST Hawaii, and the Harold KL
Castle Foundation.

sponsorship, please contact Hawaii Wildlife Fund at (808) 575-2046 or
